During the adventure through the beautiful wild woods you
will discover the wonder world of the "Thousand Lakes Country". This will allow
to see Old Rus and present-day Russia, its cultural and sport life. At the ski stadium in
Toksovo, where annual Kavgolovo Games takes place (a stage of the World Cup). We shall ski
along the pists of the ski stadium in Toksovo, competing with the best cross-country ski
professionals of the world. Lying on the North from St.Petersburg between the Finland Gulf
(Baltic sea) and Ladoga lake (the largest lake of Europe), the isthmus has formed its
present shape during the Ice Age. In spite of their small elevation (200 m),  the hills and
moraines form a mountainous looking landscape. The ancient glaciers and their waters have
given to the relief a specific kind: the smoothed boulders and rocks "Mutton
front", wavy sandy plains, high sandy-stoned barriers and extended from Northwest to
Southeast stony ridges - Selguis. The majority of lakes have the extended form of the same
orientation. The isthmus is covered mainly with coniferous woods - fur-tree and
pine, and also mixed and birch woods. Winter here is long, rather soft, though also
unstable: increase of temperature with plentiful snow can be replaced with a sharp
downturn of temperature. The winter temperatures on years are subject to significant
fluctuations. The most cold month is February, its average temperature is of 10 C (lower
zero, frost). The temperature rarely falls lower than -15-20C in February.
The snow cover is established from middle of November and descends on the end of March.
The best season for skiing is January, February and beginning of March.
Along the itineraries we shall cross the isthmus on skis, stopping overnight at lodges and
huts. The pists are wild, but
they are updated again before each group. A day distances is 18-22 km. The meals per day:
breakfast and dinner in the lodges, lunch is given morning in a package to pocket -
sandwiches with cheese and sausage, chocolate, fruit.
Though this trail is not too complex, good physical shape and some practice in
cross-country skiing is recommended to enjoy the tour fully. Required: personal equipment
for back-country skiing. Cross-country skis with "scales" or ointments.

- clothing: warm (woollen) pullover, tights, cap, mittens, windproof suit,
socks, etc.

To get the visa send us your passport data: full name / date and place
of birth / citizenship / passport number, date and place of its issue.
With the data we will send an official invitation to you and its copy to the Russian
Consular Department, where you will get the visa (indicate it, please). Please, check an
accuracy in every point of your visa! |
