The Khibiny mountains are almost unknown to the Western tourist. It is a mountain country above the Polar Circle, in the very heart of the Kola Peninsula, with the highest point m.Tchasnotchor(1191m). Traces of the glacier from the Ice Age -- huge circuses, canyons and granite outcrops create an unforgettable mountainous sight. On highland plateaux, near the town the "Lunohod-1" (moon-research vehicle) has been tested. The town boasts the Most Northerly Botanical Garden in the world. Kirovsk is one of the resorts for downhill skiing.

The best period for a ski-tour is from mid of February till mid of May, because of low temperature and short day light earlier. The period day temperature averages -5^o to -15^oC, with night to -25^oC, and after March 22 the day light becomes more than 12 hours.

The route lies across open mountainous countryside at the altitude of 200 to 1000m. Nights are in a hut and in a heated tent-refuge in forest zones. The moderate altitude of the mountains (ab.1000m), and mild climate makes it possible for skiers to be a pioneer of the wild land.

Day 1	Arrival in St.Petersburg. On 17h20 boarding of the (26 hours) train St.Petersburg-Apatity, in a bed-van.
Day 2	19h19 arrival to the Apatity station. By bus to snowcat to go through the pass of Kukiswumchorr to the Geologues valley up to a hut of Kuelpor (240m) at midnight. Night in the hut.
Day 3	Ascent/descent m.Kaskasniunchorr (1180m). Back to the hut. Night in the hut.
Day 4	Ski climbing to the Chorgorr (1180m). Back to the hut. Sauna. Night in the hut.
Day 5	Start out on a 3-day round ski trip. Crossing of South Chorgorr pass into the Meridionalni spring valley up to a tent-refuge. Night in the tent.
Day 6	Ski ascent to the highest point of the Khibinies m. Chasnachorr (1191m). Back to the tent.
Day 7	Return to the hut across the North Chorgorr pass. Night in the hut.
Day 8	A day trip to the lake of Paikuniavr, across the pass of Umba, & the pass of North Rischorr. Back to the hut. Option: rest-day. Night in the hut.
Day 9	Ascent/descent m. Putellichorr. The best ski-descent. Back to the hut. Sauna. Night in the hut.
Day 10	Start out on a 3-day return trip over the West Petrelius pass to another tent-refuge in the Malaia Belaia river valley. Night is in the tent.
Day 11	Ascent/descent m. Takhtarwumchorr (980m). Back to the tent. Night in the tent.
Day 12	Across the pass of Ramzay gorge to the Maly Wudiavr lake. By bus to Apatity. Hotel.
Day 13	By bus to the train Apatity-St.Petersburg 09h45 departure, in a bed-van. On the train
Day 14	10h25 arrival in St.Petersburg. Hotel.
Day 15	Departure back home.

Rem. The heated hut is good. You can dry you clothes, have a rest, discuss everything in warm atmosphere, and have a night look to charm the Aurora Borealis. The big tents-refuges have heaters, and whole team will spend a good time in the tents surrounded by the wild forest on a bank of rivers.
